Christmas Day 2009

Ho, ho, ho! Merry Christmas! The reoccurring theme for Christmas 2009 is a spoiled little Justin! Justin woke up at 6:30am (arg, we were hoping to sleep in until at LEAST 8am). That was wishful thinking....We began the morning with a cup of coffee...well, the "big kids" in the house did and some breakfast. And then, we dove right into presents! Some of Justin's gifts included... lots of clothes, a Sesame Street Elmo laptop, trucks, blocks, a lot of book, puppets, movies, cd's and so much more.

Justin and daddy gave mommy a special gift this year...and quite the surprise..MICHAEL BUBLE tickets!!! Mommy cried she was so happy!

After gifts, we watched Christmas movies and grazed on oodles of stuff, then prepared for the big Christmas dinner. Needless to say, we ate ourselves silly, played hard and were happy as can be! After all that, Justin was out like a light, zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!

Christmas Eve 2009

Happy Holidays to all of our family and friends! We were very blessed this holiday season and it was very exciting to see Justin more actively partaking in the Christmas spirit this year. Last Christmas, was Justin's first Christmas, but he was only 5 months old and this year he was much more aware of the surroundings of Christmas...the big tree, pretty bright lights, the gifts and the yummy treats. It was a joyous thing to experience his curiosity and to watch his big beautiful blue eyes light up at every new experience.

Christmas eve started out a little rough though....We actually started out in the emergency room! Justin and daddy were playing and Justin hurt his arm. We were pretty sure he broke his arm, but after the trip to the ER it was explained he had "Nurse's-Maid Elbow" In a nutshell of non-medical terms he pretty much dislocated his elbow which was quite painful. But I was amazed at how the doctor gently took his arm and quickly put it back into place. From there, he wanted to observe Justin to make sure it was just this injury and nothing more; during that time Justin was very pampered with Popsicles and snowman cards from the nursing staff. We were in and out of there within 30 minutes (record timing!). The doctor also showed us how to "pop it back in" if it happened again....Not sure if I am 100% comfortable doing that though, especially considering how painful it would be if I didn't do it right!

Christmas Eve evening, we went to church for the children's service. It was very interactive and filled with a lot of music. Justin was even in the Christmas pageant as the North Star (I know, how appropriate!).

Beautifully decorated Christmas tree & church.

After church, we came home, built a gingerbread house and enjoyed homemade lasagna and at that point it was time to get ready for bed and for Santa to make his way to the Hawes household! Just before that though, Justin was able to open one gift before bed and it was a cute Christmas pajama set, complete with a stocking cap!

A work in progress....

Thanksgiving 2009

We spent about 5 days visiting Grammy and Grandpa Hawes for Thanksgiving this year as well as Uncle Bud & Uncle Shane and Aunt Melissa and family. It was very relaxing and we spent a lot of time playing, reading, watching movies and napping...did we mention eating?!

On one of our last days we went to the Cidar Mill and farm. We took a little time to visit Mt. Tom Turkey, who happened to escape death this Thanksgiving holiday season!

Ha, ha. We had to pick up a few items at Wal*mart and couldn't resist putting these on Justin's head. How cute is he?!

A day at the park...

We took advantage of one of the last beautiful Autumn days by going to Gallup Park, Ann Arbor.

What is that thing?!

Happy little boy going to play in the sand pit with the giant turtle!

Realizing that turtle is huge...a little hesitant!

UM vs OSU Blood Battle Kick Off Party

Justin and the fam came to support mommy's busiest time of the year at the Red Cross! Every year mommy helps coordinate the UM vs OSU blood battle which is a blood donation competition between the two schools in conjunction with the big football game. These are pictures from the UM Red Cross Club (which mommy and her friend Erin advise) kick off party at BWW. Mommy had a little pie eating competition with her blood services chairs and the president of the club.

Get ready! Get Set!

Go!
Mommy really gets into her work! :)

PS UM won this year's blood battle, beating OSU by more than 300 pints!
Justin, thank you for sharing your mommy. In a round about way you helped save a lot of peoples' lives! :)
